Scripture: Psalms 86:11 (NIV)
Thought: To walk in His truth is to leave self behind. Why? Because self divides and Christ unites.
Devotional:
An undivided heart is a surrendered—free from the rule of self and the fleeting whims of the world. Each day our hearts choose, one path is the way of self—guided by comfort, ambition, and control. The other is the way of Christ—marked by surrender, obedience, and trust. David’s prayer in Psalm 86:11 reminds us that our hearts are prone to wander, so we need God to teach us His way and to unite our hearts with His.
An undivided heart will be anchored in the wisdom and guidance of the Spirit. While daily, the world entices us to live for comfort, recognition, or control. A divided heart serves both God and self—and ultimately, it finds no peace. An undivided heart serves Christ alone, walking in truth, strengthened by reverence for His name. Such a heart is infused with peace amid turmoil, freedom amid enslavement, and grace amid enmity. The Spirit calls us to surrender, obedience, and worship. To serve yourself is to live divided (i.e., fractured) and restless. Today’s choice may feel small, but it shapes the direction of your steps. To serve Christ is to step into freedom, peace, and purpose.
Every day we are faced with a choice: Will we serve Christ, or will we serve ourselves? The heart does not naturally drift toward devotion to God—it drifts toward self. That’s why David prayed for an undivided heart, one that is aligned with God’s truth rather than fragmented by selfish ambition. To serve Christ is to live united, steady, and filled with peace.
Determine today who you will serve. Let His Word teach your heart, let His truth guide your steps, and let holy reverence for His name unite your soul. So, who will you serve—Christ or yourself?
Reflections:
In what areas of life do you notice your heart being divided between Christ and self?
How does walking in “His truth” protect you from living for self?
What does an “undivided heart” look like in your daily routines and decisions?
Journaling Prompts:
Write a prayer asking God to “unite your heart” around His truth today.
List one area where you’ve been serving yourself more than Christ. What step of obedience can you take to realign?
Reflect on a time when serving Christ brought greater peace than serving yourself. How can you return to that place of trust?
Prayer: Lord, teach me Your way so I may walk in Your truth. My heart so often runs after self, comfort, and control, but I long for it to be united in You. Remove the divided loyalties that keep me restless and draw me into single-minded devotion to Christ. Today I choose to serve You, Lord—not myself. Strengthen me to walk in obedience, anchored in Your Word, and filled with reverence for Your name. Amen.
