Scripture: Matthew 25:14-30
Thought: If the Word remains closed, dust soon settles, and the gospel becomes buried beneath neglect. Its hope can no longer pierce the heart, and the message that can change the world lies silent.
Devotional:
When the Word remains closed, dust quietly gathers—not only upon its leather cover but upon the soil of our hearts. The gospel then becomes buried beneath apathy, distraction, and delay. What was meant to pierce our hearts and bear fruit in our lives becomes hidden under layers of neglect.
In Matthew 25, Jesus tells the story of servants entrusted with their master’s treasure. Two invested what they received; one buried it in the ground, failing to multiply its hope. The first two heard the words we all long to hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” But the one who hid his talent (gospel message) found his portion taken away, and he was cast outside the kingdom.
The Word of God is like that treasure. Each page holds wisdom, guidance, healing, gospel transformation, and eternal redemption—entrusted to us not to be hidden, but to be invested, lived, and multiplied. When we close our Bibles and silence the voice of Scripture, we bury the very treasure that was meant to transform our hearts and change our world.
To read God’s Word is to receive His deposit of truth. To apply it is to invest it. To share it is to multiply it. A closed Bible produces no growth, no transformation, and no expansion of the gospel message. But an open Bible—received with faith—awakens the soul. It pierces the heart, refines the spirit, and releases rivers of living water (John 7:38).
The Master has entrusted His gospel to you. Don’t bury it beneath fear, routine, or distraction. Dust off the Word. Open its pages. Let its truth take root, its joy spring up, and its hope overflow through you into the lives of others.
Journaling Prompts:
1. Have I allowed spiritual dust to settle on the Scriptures in my life? What does that look like for me personally?
2. How can I invest the Word this week—by living it, teaching it, or sharing it?
3. When was the last time the Word pierced my heart and stirred action? What was the result?
4. What one step can I take today to rekindle a passion for the Word of God?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting me with the treasure of Your Word. Forgive me for the times I have let dust gather on the pages of truth, burying the gospel beneath busyness or neglect. Stir my heart to open Your Word with fresh hunger. Let it pierce through my distractions, transform my thinking, and overflow as joy and hope to others. Teach me to be a faithful steward of Your truth—reading, applying, and sharing it so that Your kingdom multiplies through my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
